“I am Anwar Salih Mohammad and I am from Safti village in the Barzan area. We are the penultimate village in the Barzan area before reaching the next region. I’ve been a hiker since 2014 and an early adopter of the the Zagros Mountain Trail. I showed the team this part the route. It is an ancient strategic route, for all the people who have controlled or lived in this area. It was always considered one of the most important routes, connecting the Barzan area with nearby Dinarta, and also Akre and even Mosul Historically, it was just a footpath, but over time, vehicles began to use this route. Now that the Zagros Mountain Trail has ben officially established, we reuse the old paths, and keep them alive.”
